NJ/NY Gotham are NWSL champions for the first time in their 11-year history. The sixth seed heading into the playoffs, Gotham knocked out the North Carolina Courage in the quarterfinal, the Portland Thorns in the semis, and the OL Reign by a 2-1 scoreline in the grand finale on Saturday evening in San Diego.
In a game that had everything – from early injuries and header goals to crossbar saves and field-player goalkeeping – NJ/NY and OL Reign put on the ultimate show in the final match of the NWSL season.

Gotham stick to their guns
Gotham found themselves in the NWSL Championship because of their tireless pressing and high-line, and they relied on the same strategies against the OL Reign. Makes sense, right? If it’s not broken, there’s no need to fix it.
