Atlanta United break MLS transfer record with Emmanuel Latte Lath signing

The Middlesbrough striker moves to MLS for a reported $22 million fee, topping FC Cincinnati’s $16 million deal for Kevin Denkey earlier this offseason.

Once again, Atlanta United hold the MLS record for the league’s most expensive incoming transfer fee after spending a reported $22 million plus add-ons on Emmanuel Latte Lath.

The 26-year-old Ivory Coast international scored 16 goals in just over 2,000 minutes during his first season with Middlesbrough last year, leading the English Championship club in scoring. He’s scored 11 goals in under 1,800 minutes so far this season, having signed in England after thriving in the Swiss top tier. Latte Lath joins Atlanta United as a Designated Player days after Miguel Almiron rejoined the club from the Premier League’s Newcastle United.

"We're excited to sign Latte Lath…He’s a forward with excellent pace and good goal-scoring instincts,” Atlanta United sporting director Chris Henderson said. “His ability to stretch the field will add another dimension to our attack. At 26 years old, he’s entering the prime years of his career and has already shown his goal-scoring ability in multiple leagues in Europe."
