Where we left off last year
2024 season: 43 points, 8th in the Eastern Conference, 17th in MLS
Despite having just one Designated Player last year in Victor Wanyama, who was a complete non-factor, Montreal enjoyed a better-than-expected season under first-year manager Laurent Courtois. Struggles during the first half of the year turned into an impressive hot-streak to end the regular season. That streak propelled CF Montreal into one of the Eastern Conference wildcard spots.
Caden Clark and Bryce Duke showed flashes of excellence as dual attacking midfielders in Montreal’s 3-4-3, but Nathan Saliba’s brilliance in midfield stole the show.
Even with some talented young pieces, who enjoy extra time in the spotlight because ownership appears unwilling to sign multiple high-level Designated Players at any given time, CF Montreal fell in the wildcard round to Atlanta United. But hey, at least they had company.
