After his recent retirement, McCarty is now one of the faces of MLS on Apple TV. Here’s how he’s preparing to take on a new challenge.

Dax McCarty finds himself once again in the middle of an intense preseason preparation for yet another long and chaotic MLS season. This one’s different, though.

After a decorated 19-year playing career, the midfielder hung up his boots after the 2024 campaign and immediately transitioned to a role in broadcasting. A fan favorite during his playing days, he’ll immediately become one of the faces of the league’s TV partnership with Apple TV as one of the analysts for the league’s flagship whiparound show, MLS 360.

“I'm really ambitious. I want to be the best analyst I can possibly be.”

Taking a break from a bootcamp of sorts at MLS’s new studio home in Stamford, Connecticut, McCarty spoke exclusively to Backheeled about retirement, his new career, and his thoughts on the 2025 season ahead of Saturday’s kickoff.
