Where we left off last year

2024 season: 41 points, 11th in the Western Conference, 19th in MLS

A whole lot went wrong for FC Dallas last season. Nico Estevez’s decision to switch to a three-back shape? That one backfired in a roster almost entirely devoid of quality center backs. On that note, chief soccer officer Andre Zanotta’s roster-build that was overly dependent on injury-prone midfielders and light on starting defenders? Yeah, that went about as well as could be expected.

An injury to Jesus Ferreira and Alan Velasco’s extended absence put a hard cap on Dallas’ ceiling and, as it turns out, their floor wasn’t all that high either. Estevez didn’t last until July and this team didn’t make the playoffs.
