Lionel Messi and co. totaled 74 points last year. They did things we’ve never seen in MLS before. And yet? They fell short — sometimes well short — in every knockout competition they played in last year. Concacaf Champions Cup? Quarterfinal exit. Leagues Cup? Round of 16 exit. MLS Cup playoffs? Round One exit at the hands of Atlanta United in what was the single largest upset in MLS postseason history.
"We have to change the image of what we did last year. We have to improve a lot," Luis Suarez said earlier this offseason. A much-improved Inter Miami team is a scary thought. But can they actually reach the mountaintop?
