Inter Miami and the Seattle Sounders, the two MLS teams participating in the new-look FIFA Club World Cup scheduled to kick off this summer in the United States, learned their opponents during Thursday’s draw.
Inter Miami, who were included in the competition as a representative of the host nation, were drawn into Group A with Palmeiras (Brazil), Porto (Portugal), and Al Ahly (Egypt).
The Seattle Sounders, who qualified by winning the Concacaf Champions League in 2022, were drawn into Group B with Paris St. Germain (France), Atletico Madrid (Spain), and Botafogo (Brazil).
The expanded 32-team tournament will function much like the World Cup has in the past, with teams drawn into eight groups of four. After each team plays its three group stage opponents, the winners and runners-up from each group qualify for the Round of 16. The tournament then proceeds with a single-elimination format.
The Club World Cup’s opening game will be played in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, June 15th and the final will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, July 13th.
