With Will Kuntz steering the ship in the front office, the LA Galaxy’s 2024 season made one thing very clear: they are back to being one of the elite in MLS.
Riqui Puig played at an MVP level last year, right up to (and even past the point of) tearing his ACL in the Western Conference final. Gabriel Pec dazzled in his first season, winning MLS’s Newcomer of the Year award. Joseph Paintsil and Dejan Joveljic were excellent in the attack at their respective positions. The midfield was dynamic and cohesive. The defense was plenty shaky for most of the year, but Emiro Garces emerged as an elite center back towards the end of the year to lock down the middle of the backline next to Maya Yoshida.
Marco Reus signed midseason and barely made an impact. That’s how dangerous the Galaxy were. They put together an elite regular season, an elite playoff run, and ended 2024 as worthy MLS Cup champions.
