Where we left off last year
2024 season: 21 points, 9th in USL League One
There's no way to sugarcoat it: Lexington had a very, very bad 2024 on the field in the third division. The club splashed out on half-a-dozen Championship veterans plus a slew of League One standouts, but they flirted with a last-place finish for most of the year. Most of the blame, in the end, was assigned to shoddy roster construction and Darren Powell's stodgy management style.
The upside? Everything went right off the field. Lexington opened up their own soccer-specific stadium and solidified a move up to the USL Championship. The roster has been completely overhauled, and the resources that the club weaponized last year – Lexington spent at the level of an above-average Championship team even while in the third tier – have hopefully been better managed this time around.
It's onward and upward in Kentucky.
