Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez signed a contract extension through the end of the 2025 MLS season, the club announced on Wednesday. His previous deal with Miami was through 2024.
“I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fanbase, which for us is like family…hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy,” Suarez said in a statement.
The 37-year-old scored 20 goals in the regular season and helped Inter Miami set the single-season points record, even with Lionel Messi missing a large portion of the season. Suarez scored nine of his 20 goals without Messi on the field. Crucially for Inter Miami’s roster build, Suarez was not a Designated Player in 2024.
“In 2024, Luis brought to Inter Miami all of the elements that make him one of the greatest strikers of all time. He performed at an elite level for us, and we’re excited to see that continue next season,” president of football operations Raul Sanllehi said. “Luis was not only our leading scorer this season, but also a leader for the group. His impact cannot be understated.”
The announcement of Suarez’s extension comes one day after Inter Miami confirmed Javier Mascherano as their new manager.
Joe’s perspective:
Once Suarez decided he wanted to play another year, signing on the dotted line was a gigantic no-brainer for Inter Miami.
