Miguel Almiron returns to Atlanta United via transfer from Newcastle

The Paraguayan who helped lead Atlanta to MLS Cup in 2018 arrives for a reported $10 million transfer fee.

Club legend Miguel Almiron has returned to Atlanta United, the team he helped lead to MLS Cup in 2018.

After shining for Atlanta in their first two seasons of MLS existence, Almiron moved to Newcastle United in January, 2019. The Paraguayan attacker spent the next six years with Newcastle, playing over 12,000 Premier League minutes. Almiron, who will turn 31 before the 2025 MLS season starts, fills one of Atlanta United’s two open Designated Player spots.

"We're thrilled to welcome Miguel back to Atlanta United and know we're getting a top player and someone with excellent character," Atlanta’s chief soccer officer Chris Henderson said.
