On Tuesday, MLS unveiled the 2024 Best XI, which is designed to recognize the league’s top players at each position based on voting from media members, MLS players, and MLS club technical staffs.
The 2024 Best XI includes seven first-time honorees and features players from eight different countries across nine different MLS clubs. The Columbus Crew and Inter Miami both have two representatives in the team.
You can find the full Best XI below:
Goalkeeper: Kristijan Kahlina (Charlotte FC)
Defenders: Jordi Alba (Inter Miami), Yeimar Gómez Andrade (Seattle Sounders), Steven Moreira (Columbus Crew)
Midfielders: Luciano Acosta (FC Cincinnati), Evander (Portland Timbers), Riqui Puig (LA Galaxy)
Forwards: Christian Benteke (DC United), Denis Bouanga (LAFC), Cucho Hernández (Columbus Crew), Lionel Messi (Inter Miami)
Joe’s view:
Each of the players featured on this year’s MLS Best XI are certainly worthy of recognition. However, the Best XI almost always does a poor job of actually highlighting players at each on-field position. This year’s is no different: it features two center backs, one fullback, three attack-minded midfielders, and four pure forwards.
