MLS data deep-dive: LA Galaxy’s problems, Philadelphia Union’s efficiency & more

The LA Galaxy need to get the ball into the box. Plus, FC Dallas are wildly watchable and San Diego FC’s defense is spectacular.

Let’s dive into the most intriguing statistical storylines from the latest set of MLS games.

Philadelphia Union’s efficiency

Raise your hand if you had the Philadelphia Union on six points going into the third weekend of the season.

Great, now stop lying.

The Union have stunned their opponents out of the gate, scoring four goals in each of their first two matches and dominating Orlando City and Cincinnati respectively. Tai Baribo has five of those goals and Bradley Carnell’s team is looking eerily similar to the squad he had in St. Louis. If you remember, Carnell’s team would almost freeze teams with their press and capitalize on mistakes early in matches.
