On Thursday, MLS announced its complete 2025 regular season schedule, with opening day landing on February 22nd and Decision Day on October 18th.
Inter Miami, who set the MLS single-season points record this past season, will host the first match of the league’s 2025 campaign against New York City FC at Chase Stadium on February 22nd at 2:30pm ET. In another notable match on opening weekend, expansion club San Diego FC will debut on the road against the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on February 23rd at 7pm ET.
As MLS begins its 30th season, the league has included a pair of nods to its inaugural 1996 campaign: the San Jose Earthquakes will host DC United on April 6th as a rematch of the league’s first game and the LA Galaxy will host DC United on July 12th in a rematch of the first MLS Cup.
With San Diego FC’s arrival as MLS’s 30th team, the league’s 34-game regular season schedule format features each team playing two games against each conference opponent (28 games) and the remaining six games against cross-conference opponents.
MLS will not pause its regular season schedule for Leagues Cup matches with Liga MX. Instead, the tournament will be played with a different format during the regular season from July 29th to August 31st. The league will, however, pause its schedule during part of the Club World Cup and Gold Cup, two tournaments taking place in the summer of 2025. MLS will break from June 15th to June 24th, which covers a portion of the Club World Cup’s schedule (June 14th to July 13th) and the Gold Cup’s schedule (June 14th to July 6th).
