Where we left off last year
2024 season: 31 points, 13th in the Western Conference, 27th in MLS
With one of the four oldest squads in MLS — based on FBref’s average age metric, which is weighted by minutes played — and a group of attackers that largely struggled to impact games, 2024 was a bleak year for Sporting Kansas City. Sure, there were a small handful of positives. That run to the U.S. Open Cup final was fun. Jake Davis looking like an above-average starter in two positions was, too. William Agada hit double-digit goals and Stephen Afrifa showed some things on the wing.
But for the most part? Peter Vermes’ choice to ride with his guys for one more year came back to bite.
