Where we left off last year

2024 season: 37 points, 12th in the Western Conference

After the spectacular highs of their West-winning expansion season in 2023, 2024 took a turn for the worse.

An inability to recapture that white-hot form from the year prior led to St. Louis’ decision to fire head coach Bradley Carnell. Following Carnell’s exit, the front office began a roster overhaul in the summer transfer window. Marcel Hartel joined as a Designated Player to bolster the attacking midfield line, along with forward Cedric Teuchert, defensive reinforcements, and more. Those additions helped turn the tide, with St. Louis City going 4W-3L-1D from September onwards — but with so little time between the summer window and the end of the regular season, improvement came too late in St. Louis.

Really, St. Louis’ choice to make so many meaningful moves last summer set up their 2025 more than it did their 2024. They started the offseason early, which should help propel the team to some level of success right off the bat this year.
