There were a bunch of truly excellent goals in MLS during the first weekend of the regular season. We're talking long-range bangers, individual efforts, well-worked team moves, and whole load of other stuff.
But there was one goal in particular that stood out to me: the Philadelphia Union's second goal in their 4-1 win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday. The finish wasn't special. The assist was good, but unremarkable. No, the thing that made it so good was the work of defensive midfielder Jose Martinez on and off the ball.
